Rooted in Reason: Nurturing the Seeds of Liberty

Don’t surrender the objective Rule of Law for the tyranny of subjective rules by grassroothawaii

Tomorrow the sun will rise.  Water will run downhill.  Politicians, czars, commissioners, officials and regulators will discover problems that require more rules instead of solutions.  Take helmet strikes in football.

Motorcycle helmets need hard shells because steel and concrete can penetrate or abrade through softer protection. But, football fields have nothing as hard as steel or concrete until the players enter with headgear hard enough to kill or cripple.  That means the only reason for a hard shell is the other guy’s hard shell.

Look how space age foam protects equally fragile high-value electronics — as well as the thing that bumps into them.

Even if anchoring the face cage requires a rigid anchor, it’s not needed in the top half of the helmet that is today’s weaponized area — no one assaults with their cheeks.  Even there, embed it.  Don’t externalize, it.

Get over “but we’ve always made them like this”.  Stop making laws and rules that depend on the rulers’ subjective feeling about things, like this rule and hate crimes do.  Redesign helmets to eliminate the problem.  Don’t give more subjective power to those who rule instead of do.
